The 29th United States Infantry was established in Albany, New York, on January 29, 1813, during the War of 1812. Major John Ellis Wool (1784-1869) and Major Asa B. Sizer (1780-1829) led the regiment, which was stationed at Sackets Harbor from March to August 1814. They fought under General Alexander Macomb at the Battle of Plattsburg in September of that year.
